Troup County extended their winning streak to nine on Thursday, bumping them up to 9-0. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Spalding Jaguars 48-14. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five contests by 28 points or more so far this season.
Troup County was led to victory by Javarris Warner and Garrison Edwards. Those 186 rushing yards gave Warner a new career-high. Blaize Bell was another key player, picking up 59 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Troup County didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Spalding to a completion percentage of just 33.3%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Jamari Brown and Davis Moncus, who each logged one passes deflected. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Troup County; they were averaging 61.9%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 61.9%.
Troup County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Noah Davis and KJ McQueen. McQueen is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last 14 games he's played dating back to last season. Skylen Straughn was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks, forcing two fumbles, and making eight total tackles (5.0 for loss).
As for Spalding, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 228th, while Troup County is ranked 25th).
When it comes to explaining why Spalding lost, don't look at Camauri Berry. Despite the final result, he rushed for 61 yards and two scores. Berry got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 59 yards.
Looking ahead, Troup County will host Sandy Creek at 7:30 p.m. on the 31st. The Patriots' defense has only allowed 10.2 points per game this season, so the Tigers' offense will have their work cut out for them. Spalding does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
