Softball Game Preview: Liberty Christian Warriors vs. John Paul II Cardinals

Liberty Christian hasn't had much luck against John Paul II recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Warriors will challenge the Cardinals at 1:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Liberty Christian sitting on four straight victories and John Paul II on 11.

Liberty Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They never let Legacy Christian Academy get on the board and left with a 3-0 win.

Not much got past Makenzie Byler, who gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Legacy Christian Academy off the board. Byler has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Liberty Christian's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Avery Combest, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Liberty Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Legacy Christian Academy struck out 14 times.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when John Paul II took on Prestonwood Christian on Monday. The Cardinals blew past the Lions 12-2. Considering the Cardinals have won 20 contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

John Paul II pushed their record up to 25-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Liberty Christian, their win bumped their record up to 14-5-1.

Liberty Christian suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to John Paul II in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
