Recap: Mountain Range Mustangs vs. Broomfield Eagles

The Mountain Range Mustangs pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Broomfield by a score of 58-55. While losing is never fun, Mountain Range can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Broomfield is ranked 26th).

Mountain Range lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Landen Calabrese, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Calabrese set a new season high mark in steals with two. Another player making a difference was Moses West, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and six assists.

Even though they lost, Mountain Range were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Broomfield only racked up 21 assists.

Broomfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joey Cook, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. Cook continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shyya Martinez, who scored eight points along with eight assists and three steals.

Mountain Range now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Broomfield, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain Range will take on Boulder at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Boulder is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Broomfield, they will be playing at home against Horizon at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Horizon is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 64.7 points per game.
