Baseball Game Preview: Wheaton Academy Warriors vs. Kaneland Knights

Wheaton Academy is 2-8 against Kaneland since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Warriors will venture away from home to face off against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Wheaton Academy sitting on five straight victories and Kaneland on eight.

On Saturday, Wheaton Academy was able to grind out a solid win over West Aurora, taking the game 7-3. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly four runs.

Wheaton Academy got a great performance from Bryce Legel as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Legel has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dom Murrell was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Kiebles, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Wheaton Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Aurora only managed six hits.

Meanwhile, Kaneland never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Plano 12-0. Considering the Knights have won 13 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaneland's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wheaton Academy, their record now sits at 21-14.

Wheaton Academy might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Kaneland when the teams last played back in March. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
