            Softball Recap: Clever Blue Jays vs. Exeter Tigers        
        
		
        
        
            Clever had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They walked away with  an   8-4  victory over the Exeter Tigers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Blue Jays also won the last time the pair played  back in April of 2024.
 Ava Mittag was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound,   pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned  (and two unearned) runs off   eight  hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  given up  more than one  walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring a  run and  stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
 In other batting news,  Piper Steele and  Savannah Cheney did most of the damage at the plate:  Steele  scored a  run while going 3-for-4, while  Cheney  went 1-for-4 with two  runs, one  triple,  and one  RBI. That  triple was  Cheney's first of the season.  Katelynn Butts was another key player,  scoring a  run and  stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
 Clever was getting hits left and right  and  finished the game having  posted a batting average of .389. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a  batting average of .318 or higher in four consecutive  contests.

Clever pushed their record up to 9-3 with the  win, which was their seventh straight  on the road dating back to last season. The  road  victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Exeter, their defeat  ended  a  three-game streak of wins at home  and  dropped them to 6-7.
 Coming up, Clever will venture away from home to  face off against Buffalo  at 5:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. As for Exeter, they will host Galena  at 5:00  p.m.  on Tuesday.
