Baseball Recap: Owen's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Owen's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Avery County Vikings with a sharp 12-1 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Warhorses as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Houston Mashburn was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Warnock, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Gabe Mahar was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-13. As for Avery County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Owen didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-6 defeat against Mitchell on the 11th. As for Avery County, they are taking a road trip to take on Patton at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
