Baseball Game Preview: Holy Cross Indians vs. Covington Catholic Colonels

Holy Cross hasn't had much luck against Covington Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Indians are taking a road trip to face off against the Colonels at 4:30 p.m. Holy Cross will be strutting in after a victory while Covington Catholic will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Holy Cross turned things around against Ludlow on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since March 24th.

Brady Neff was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of David Wilson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Covington Catholic was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They lost 10-1 to Highlands. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Colonels have suffered since April 8th.

Holy Cross pushed their record up to 9-15 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Covington Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-10.

Holy Cross might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Covington Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
