Basketball Recap: Clinton Falls Despite Big Games from Phoenix Everett and Ciara Stuart

If Clinton was riding high fresh off their 63-30 takedown of West Bladen last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Clinton Dark Horses took a 47-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the James Kenan Tigers. The Dark Horses were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 55-52.

Despite the defeat, Clinton had strong showings from Ciara Stuart, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards, and Phoenix Everett, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 13 points and seven steals. Everett has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Rubi Davila was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

James Kenan found their leader in sophomore Y'Anna Rivers, who posted 20 points along with five blocks and three steals. Another player making a difference was Aleyah Wilson, who went 5 for 9 en route to 14 points.

Clinton's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for James Kenan, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-4.

Clinton has already played their next match, a 74-28 win against Union on the 15th. As for James Kenan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 53-36 victory against North Lenoir on the 14th.
