Softball Recap: Charleston Takes a Loss

If Charleston was feeling good fresh off their 14-6 takedown of Paris last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Charleston took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lavaca Golden Arrows on Friday. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Hannah Ward spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

Charleston's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Lavaca, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Charleston will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mansfield at 4:30 p.m. on April 1. As for Lavaca, they will look to defend their home field on the 31st against Mountainburg at 4:00 p.m.
