Basketball Recap: Gaston Christian Eagles vs. Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors

The Gaston Christian Eagles were handed a two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against the Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors on Tuesday. Gaston Christian breezed by the Warriors at home to the tune of 60-25. Given Gaston Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Warriors are ranked 279th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Makoi Mabor Marier continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Cameron Newman, who scored nine points.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brock Mumpower, who scored eight points. Josiah Rucks was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.

Gaston Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 16-14 record this season. As for Metrolina Christian Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gaston Christian has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. One thing working in Gaston Day's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games. As for Metrolina Christian Academy, they will be playing at home against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hickory Grove Christian has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12.
