Baseball Recap: St. Maries Comes Up Short

St. Maries was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against the Timberlake Tigers, falling 17-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on Thursday.

Peyton Lingo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for St. Maries: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-8 otherwise. Amado Stewert was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

St. Maries' defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Timberlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

St. Maries will venture away from home to square off against Orofino at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Maniacs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Lumberjacks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Timberlake, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Kellogg at 3:00 p.m.
