Volleyball Recap: Elk River Comes Up Short

Elk River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Spring Lake Park Panthers. The Elks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Elk River sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-11.

Taylor Gunderson paced Elk River's offense, picking up 19 kills. Gunderson were helped by Makenna Glaser and Siri Maciej, who contributed 16 assists each. Maciej was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Spring Lake Park was led to victory by Amilya Wordlaw and Anne Wright. Wordlaw had 16 digs and four aces, while Wright had six digs and three aces. That's the most aces Wordlaw has posted since back in September of 2024.

Elk River's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Spring Lake Park, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Elk River has already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Roseville on the 12th. As for Spring Lake Park, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on the 13th.
