Baseball Game Preview: Osage City Indians vs. West Franklin Falcons

The Osage City Indians will square off against the West Franklin Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Osage City has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while West Franklin will arrive with 11 straight wins.

Osage City came up short against Humboldt on Monday, falling 8-2.

Osage City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daityn Meek, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, West Franklin beat Crest 10-5 on Monday.

Brig Corwine and Gunnar McMahan made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Corwine pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, McMahan struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At the plate, Corwine got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, while McMahan went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zeek Dowd, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

West Franklin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crest only posted an OBP of .250.

West Franklin pushed their record up to 20-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Osage City, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.

Osage City took their victory against West Franklin in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
