League recap: Union Mine stuns El Dorado in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Union Mine, who took down 743rd ranked El Dorado, 53-28. Sean Tow ran for 370 yards in the win.

The Diamondbacks moved up to 734 from 799 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Sierra Valley. Union Mine climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Cougars 53-28.

El Dorado's dynamic duo of Nick Bonniksen and Clayton Van Duyn proved tough for Dave Johnson's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bonniksen threw for 162 yards and two touchdowns and Van Duyn had 79 yards receiving. Caleb Melton helped El Dorado's passing attack out by catching three balls for 38 yards.

6-foot-2 quarterback Matt Jimison of Vista del Lago is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1800. He has also thrown 27 touchdowns. On the ground, the Diamondbacks' Tow has rushed for 1062 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Van Duyn. The El Dorado star has 56 catches for 574 yards.

Going into this week's game against Union Mine, the Eagles' Jimison needs 200 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Cosumnes Oaks takes on River City. The Wolfpack are currently in second, while the Raiders are in fourth.

River City took down Galt 48-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
