Baseball Game Preview: Cherryville Ironmen vs. South Point Red Raiders

The Cherryville Ironmen will square off against the South Point Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Wednesday, Cherryville didn't have quite enough to beat Crest and fell 17-16. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (ten), the Ironmen still had to take the loss.

Parker Anderson was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, Davin Digh was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Withers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, South Point started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Tuscola. They fell 13-9 to the Mountaineers on Wednesday.

Cherryville's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for South Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Cherryville skirted past South Point 2-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. Will Cherryville repeat their success, or does South Point have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
