Softball Recap: Pittsfield Takes Down Ranked Epping

Pittsfield faced Epping in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Panthers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Blue Devils 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won four in a row.

Alex Penney was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 18 batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one double.

Penney wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison Babcock, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run. Alivia Lavigne also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Pittsfield's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Epping, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-2.
