Volleyball Recap: Tomahawk Comes Up Short

Tomahawk lost against Newman Catholic on September 6th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Hatchets fell 2-0 to the Fighting Cardinals.

While Tomahawk was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-15.

Siennah Calkins paced Tomahawk's offense, picking up six kills. Calkins got some help from Shelby Borowski and her 15 assists. Sophie Olsen controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Newman Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lexi Rice, who had four digs and four aces. Rice has been hot for a while, having also posted 14 or more assists the last 15 times she's played.

Tomahawk's loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Newman Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-14 record this season.

Tomahawk and Newman Catholic could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Hatchets (ranked 217th) will meet Mosinee (ranked 15th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Newman Catholic will square off against Edgar at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (125 vs. 47).
