Softball Recap: Doherty Memorial Wins Going Away Against Grafton

Doherty Memorial won against Burncoat last Thursday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Highlanders blew past the Grafton Gators 11-1. The Highlanders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Gators, too.

Riley Cormier looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caleigh Moriarty, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Audrey Lefebvre, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Doherty Memorial has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.0 runs this season. As for Grafton, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.

Coming up, Doherty Memorial will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Uxbridge at 3:30 p.m. As for Grafton, they will venture away from home to challenge Quabbin Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
