Baseball Recap: Socastee Takes a Loss

Socastee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buford Yellow Jackets.

Jimmy Cocca was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Cocca was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Josh Keyser and Luke Johnson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Keyser got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Johnson went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double. Johnson has become a key player for Socastee: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-17 otherwise.

Socastee's defeat dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Buford, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-8 record.

Socastee didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 4-3 win against Conway on the 28th. As for Buford, they have also already played their next game, a 7-1 loss against Central on the 28th.
