Football Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-3. They were dealt a 57-6 loss at the hands of the Whitmer Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 316th, while the Panthers are ranked 56th).

Springfield lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Byron Jackson, who picked up 90 receiving yards and one score.

As for Whitmer, their victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.8 points over those games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whitmer to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamon Holmes, who rushed for 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries. Another rusher making a difference was Jameel Small, who rushed for 82 yards and one TD on only six carries.

Springfield and Whitmer will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Blue Devils will face off against rival Bowling Green at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Whitmer is set to challenge their familiar foe Anthony Wayne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
