Baseball Recap: Miyamura Patriots vs. Moriarty Pintos
Miyamura was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They fell just short of the Moriarty Pintos by a score of 7-5. Miyamura was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Moriarty apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2018.
Dylan Joins was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn't allow any walks). Joins was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Joins wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Seth Torres, who went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run.
Like Miyamura, Moriarty also got a great game from a two-way player: Amare Gonzales. On the mound, Gonzales struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Zachary Gallegos pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (he also only allowed one walk). At bat, Gonzales went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Gallegos scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Gonzales has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aidyn Pacheco, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Miyamura's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Moriarty, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Miyamura will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Grants at 6:00 p.m. As for Moriarty, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Capital at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Moriarty has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
