Mathis came tearing into Thursday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 7-4 win over the Orange Grove Bulldogs. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly three runs.

The team relied heavily on Marivel Martinez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Angelina Hernandez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Mathis pushed their record up to 16-6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Orange Grove, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-15-1 record this season.
