Preview: Crescent Loggers vs. Ocosta Wildcats
Crescent has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Ocosta Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Crescent has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Crescent scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 52-14 victory over Concrete at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-5.
Crescent got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ciara Cargo-Acosta out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Cargo-Acosta pulled down eight or more rebounds. Naomii Spraque was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Ocosta strolled past North Beach with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 48-31. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Ocosta has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ocosta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anna Davis, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds. Davis is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alexia Bradley, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Crescent's record now sits at 2-3. As for Ocosta, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Crescent have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 15.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Ocosta struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 42.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Crescent came up short against Ocosta in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 25-19. Can Crescent avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
