Softball Game Preview: Sumner Stingrays vs. Gaither Cowboys + Official Tickets

The Sumner Stingrays will face off against the Gaither Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Sumner can't be too happy about their upcoming road game considering what happened when they opened their season away from home on Tuesday. They fell just short of Parrish Community by a score of 5-4.

Kamryn Pickerings made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, while Gaither put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Leto. The Cowboys put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 30-0 win. The Cowboys haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Kaylee Maples and Kendal Jackson made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Maples tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jackson pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Maples went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run, while Jackson went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.

In other batting news, Taylor Ramsey was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Gigi Alvarez was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Gaither always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Sumner was able to grind out a solid win over Gaither in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 9-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Stingrays since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
