Football Recap: Monrovia Keeps San Marino's Under Pressure

Monrovia won the last time they faced San Marino and BYRON BELL did his part to make sure it happened again. The Wildcats breezed past the Titans to the tune of 35-7 on Friday for which the team can thank BELL, who rushed for 243 yards and three scores on only 12 carries. Monrovia is undefeated when BELL posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise.

Monrovia's defense made their presence known, laying out Parker Wilson three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Rob Staples, KALEB ELLISON, and Evan Huelster, who each picked up one sack apiece. Monrovia got some further help from Staples: he picked up a sack, made eight total tackles, and defended one pass.

Monrovia's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-3. As for San Marino, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Monrovia will venture away from home to challenge Temple City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats will be up against the Rams' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.11 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for San Marino, they will welcome La Canada at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' defense has only allowed 9.6 points per game this season, so the Titans' offense will have their work cut out for them.
