Basketball Recap: Brianna Matthews Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Calvary Chapel Academy

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Melbourne's strategy against Calvary Chapel Academy on Tuesday. The Melbourne Bulldogs blew past the Calvary Chapel Academy Eagles 53-27. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 44-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles had little chance of recovering from.

Melbourne's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Matthews, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Matthews a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Paz, who went 5 for 12 en route to 17 points and five steals.

Melbourne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Dorn, who posted nine points.
