Softball Recap: Saint Ignatius College Prep Gets the Win

After losing to IC Catholic Prep the last time they met, Saint Ignatius College Prep decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wolfpack walked away with a 7-2 win over the Knights on Wednesday.

Zoe Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eliana Romero, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Katie McClain, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Saint Ignatius College Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as IC Catholic Prep only posted a batting average of .200.

Saint Ignatius College Prep's victory bumped their record up to 11-14. As for IC Catholic Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-11.

Looking ahead, Saint Ignatius College Prep will challenge De La Salle at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. IC Catholic Prep will be paying especially close attention to the Wolfpack's game: after the Wolfpack face off against the Meteors, they'll take on IC Catholic Prep again at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
