Basketball Preview: Oberlin The Phoenix vs. Brookside Cardinals
The Oberlin The Phoenix are on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Brookside Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 74-43, which was the final score in Oberlin's tilt against the Wildcats on Saturday. Oberlin was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Drew Walter, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Jones-Smith, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Brookside unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. Their rough 72-46 defeat to Columbia might stick with them for a while.
Oberlin dropped their record down to 1-14 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Brookside, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.
Oberlin suffered a grim 73-47 defeat to the Cardinals in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Oberlin was down 47-26.
