Baseball Recap: Red Jacket Takes a Loss

Red Jacket extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-4. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sodus Spartans. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2019.

As for Sodus, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Sodus' part, Parker Orbaker made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Orbaker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wade DeRue, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gauge Johnson, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Red Jacket is taking a road trip to square off against Harley Allendale Columbia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Indians' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Sodus, they will host Williamson at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Marauders have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
