Softball Game Preview: Arlington Eagles vs. Cascade Bruins

The Arlington Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Cascade Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last five games Arlington has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Monday, it was close, but Arlington sidestepped Edmonds-Woodway for a 10-8 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won six in a row.

Peyton Aanstad spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Arlington let Grace Strothman and Eliza Andrews run wild. Strothman went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Andrews went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two runs gave Strothman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Miller, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Lake Stevens hit Cascade with a seven-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bruins came up short against the Vikings, falling 13-3.

Cascade saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tessa Hahn, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Arlington pushed their record up to 5-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Cascade, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Arlington couldn't quite get it done against Cascade when the teams last played on April 3rd as they fell 16-13. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
