Basketball Recap: Springfield Skates Past Sumner with Ease

Springfield won the last time they faced Sumner and things went their way on Friday too. The Springfield Bulldogs claimed a resounding 72-40 win over the Sumner Cowboys. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Bulldogs just coasted through the last quarter.

Springfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dequane Davis led the charge by going 8 of 10 en route to 18 points and three steals. Davis has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 14 times he's played. Rowen Harris was another key player, going 5 for 12 on his way to 18 points.

Springfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.

Springfield is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Sumner, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springfield will head out to square off against Holden at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
