Preview: China Spring Cougars vs. Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees
The China Spring Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Even though La Vega scored an imposing 49 points on Friday, China Spring still came out on top. China Spring had just enough and edged La Vega out 52-49. Given China Spring's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 76th, while La Vega is ranked 201st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Stephenville gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They breezed by Life Waxahachie on the road to the tune of 59-19. Stephenville pushed the score to 52-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Life Waxahachie cut but never quite recovered from.
Latrell Titus went supernova for Stephenville, rushing for 167 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. Ryan Gafford was another key player, having thrown for 263 yards And two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped China Spring to 6-2 and Stephenville to 5-2.
China Spring came out on top in a nail-biter against Stephenville in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, sneaking past 38-36. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Stephenville's Ryder Lambert, who threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for China Spring to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
