Basketball Recap: Hammonton Blue Devils vs. Bridgeton Bulldogs

The Hammonton Blue Devils pushed their score all the way to 69 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Bridgeton by a score of 72-69. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Hammonton came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 286th).

Bridgeton was led to victory by Zikwon Anderson and Jameel Purnell. Anderson scored 23 points, while Purnell dropped a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Anderson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zamir Chance, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two blocks.

Hammonton's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-6. As for Bridgeton, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11.

Hammonton will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bridgeton, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Chiefs at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Buena is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
