Baseball Recap: Vestaburg Takes a Loss

Vestaburg couldn't beat Marion on Monday even though they stacked six runs on them in the second inning. The Wolverines fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 11-10. The Wolverines were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Colton Halgren was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Keegan Beetley was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Jansen Scholer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Vestaburg has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15-1 record this season. As for Marion, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Vestaburg will challenge Carson City-Crystal at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Marion, they will welcome Frankfort at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
