Jasper (Mo.) captured the lead in overtime and held on for a 22-14 victory over
Sarcoxie (Mo.) on Saturday. The Eagles took the lead for good when
Payton Smith ran for a touchdown.
After taking the lead on a
Gavin Currey touchdown run, the Bears went into halftime with a 14-0 lead. The Eagles scored the winning points with a Smith touchdown run that came in the fifth quarter.
Despite scoring six points in the third, Jasper still trailed by eight points going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped JHS pull out the victory.
The loss snapped Sarcoxie's four-game winning streak.
The victory was a completely different match up compared to last season's game between these two teams, which Sarcoxie took, 56-6.
The defeat comes as a step back for Sarcoxie, which notched a 28-6 victory over Pierce City in its previous outing.
