Basketball Recap: James King Jr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Natchez over Brookhaven

While it was all tied up 23-23 at halftime, Natchez was not quite Brookhaven's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They fell 49-40 to the Brookhaven Panthers. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Natchez lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being James King Jr, who went 6 for 11 en route to 14 points. William Johnson was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Leading Brookhaven to victory were Nicholas Gamble and Jamarion Cooper. Gamble went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points along with eight boards and three blocks, while Cooper went 7 for 11 en route to 15 points. Gamble has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacaiden Cook, who posted five points and four steals.

Natchez's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Brookhaven, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Natchez will face off against South Jones at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Brookhaven, they will square off against Florence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
