Baseball Recap: Oxford Wins Going Away Against Horn Lake

Oxford had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Horn Lake on Friday. The Chargers put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 15-0 win. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Sovient Taylor looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, James Blackwood was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Oxford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 9-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Sharpe Smith, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Oxford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.

Oxford's win bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Horn Lake, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.
