Preview: Greeley West Spartans vs. Erie Tigers
Greeley West is 0-3 against Erie since October of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Greeley West Spartans will be playing at home against the Erie Tigers at 1:00 p.m. Greeley West comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 11 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Greeley West had to suffer through a rough 44-11 loss at the hands of Monarch.
Meanwhile, Erie had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.7 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They really took it to Longmont for the full four quarters, racking up a 57-13 win at home. The result was nothing new for Erie, who have now won six games by 23 points or more so far this season.
Erie's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Gavin Lusk, who gained 178 total yards and two touchdowns, and Blake Barnett, who rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Mason Cowgill did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Greeley West's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Erie, their win was their eighth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Greeley West was taken down by Erie 44-6 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Greeley West have more luck at home instead of on the road?
