Softball Recap: Lake Region's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Lake Region barely beat George Jenkins the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Thunder put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 11-5 victory on Friday. The Thunder might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Makenna Meadows made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Margaret Jenkins, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kirsten Aldridge, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

The win was the fifth in a row for Lake Region, bringing their record up to 16-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for George Jenkins, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7.

Lake Region and George Jenkins should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Thunder will face off against Auburndale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (16 vs. 312). Meanwhile, George Jenkins (ranked 106th) will meet Winter Haven (ranked 340th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
