Softball Game Preview: Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils vs. Heritage Academy Heroes

The Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Heritage Academy Heroes at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Santa Cruz Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Santa Cruz Valley had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt ALA - Anthem South on Wednesday. The Dust Devils never let the Titans get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Dust Devils haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Mionette Banda, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Flores, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Heritage Academy faced Horizon Honors in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Heroes came up short against the Eagles, falling 13-7. The Heroes' defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.

Savana Soltero made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Rowan Asanovich was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Heritage Academy's loss dropped their record down to 16-2. As for Santa Cruz Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Santa Cruz Valley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Heritage Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Santa Cruz Valley might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Heritage Academy in their previous meeting last Thursday. Can the Dust Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
