Timpview (Provo, Utah) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 2 in Utah, but was stunned by
Mountain Crest (Hyrum, Utah), 17-14. Mountain Crest was ranked at No. 4 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Utah coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a passing touchdown in the first quarter, the Mustangs led 9-7 at the half.
Mountain Crest expanded its lead to three points entering the fourth quarter. MC scored two times in the third, including once on a passing touchdown.
The Hyrum school led by as many as 10 points before the Thunderbirds cut into the final margin.
Gregson Aspinall made a difference for Timpview. The senior running back ran for one touchdown.
The Mustangs went into the matchup giving up only 11.4 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Timpview, which notched a 32-14 victory over East in its previous outing.
