Softball Recap: Niles North Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lake Forest on Saturday, Niles North came back down to earth. The Vikings fell 7-4 to the Vernon Hills Cougars on Tuesday. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 17-0.

Isla Kapellas put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Kapellas wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Analina Tumang, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

Niles North's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Vernon Hills, their victory bumped their record up to 7-17.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Niles North will welcome Niles West at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Vernon Hills, they will take on Lake Forest at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
