Baseball Game Preview: Tarpon Springs Spongers vs. Boca Ciega Pirates

The Tarpon Springs Spongers will square off against the Boca Ciega Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Tarpon Springs' hitters haven't had much luck over their past four matchups, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Tarpon Springs turned things around against Anclote on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Sharks 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spongers have posted since March 19th.

Danny Scott tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has become a key player for Tarpon Springs: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-14 otherwise.

At the plate, Tarpon Springs saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyzer Campbell, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits Campbell has posted since back in February.

Meanwhile, Boca Ciega was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They came up short against St. Petersburg, falling 9-1.

Boca Ciega's loss dropped their record down to 1-20. As for Tarpon Springs, their win bumped their record up to 11-14.
