Basketball Recap: Valley Union Comes Up Short

If Valley Union was riding high fresh off their 48-19 takedown of Patagonia back in December of 2024, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Valley Union Blue Devils took a 34-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Duncan Wildkats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Devils of the 31-23 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Valley Union saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kylee Gilbreth posted 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gilbreth has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Boss, who put up three points and four steals.

Valley Union has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Duncan, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Union will welcome Lourdes Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Valley Union is facing Lourdes Catholic at the right time seeing as Lourdes Catholic is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Duncan, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Superior at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Duncan's defense has only allowed 23.2 points per game this season, so Superior's offense will have their work cut out for them.
