Basketball Recap: San Miguel Takes a Loss

San Miguel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 34th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Willcox Cowboys, falling 73-15. The Vipers lost against the Cowboys in their previous head to head back in January of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 58-21 score last time.

Willcox's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maddie Bennett, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. What's more, Bennett also racked up five assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gabriela Galaz, who posted 12 points and eight boards.

San Miguel's loss dropped their record down to 0-20. As for Willcox, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Miguel will welcome Benson at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Willcox, they will be playing at home against Desert Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Willcox is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.4 points per game this season.
