Baseball Game Preview: Clearfield Bison vs. Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers

Clearfield hasn't had much luck against Philipsburg-Osceola recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bison will take on the Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. Clearfield has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Clearfield managed to slip by Somerset the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bison lost 16-1 to the Eagles last Friday. The Bison just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Meanwhile, Philipsburg-Osceola strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over Bishop Carroll. The matchup marked the Mountaineers' most dominant win of the season so far.

Zach Yoder was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Sam McDonald was incredible, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Fischer White, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Philipsburg-Osceola was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Carroll only posted a batting average of .158.

Philipsburg-Osceola pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Clearfield, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Clearfield couldn't quite finish off Philipsburg-Osceola when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Bison avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
