Softball Recap: Glencliff Comes Up Short

Glencliff extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Monday, dropping them down to 0-2. They came up short against the McGavock Raiders, falling 23-1. The Colts were not able to make up for their loss to the Raiders from their previous meeting back in March of 2019.

As for McGavock, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 15 runs or more this season.

For McGavock's part, Micayla Russell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Russell has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, McGavock got a massive performance out of Karleigh Stoltz, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Dahl, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Coming up, Glencliff will take on Pearl-Cohn at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for McGavock, they will welcome Cane Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Ravens have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.6 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
