Softball Game Preview: United Lions vs. Purchase Line Red Dragons

United is on an 11-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Purchase Line a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The United Lions will welcome the Purchase Line Red Dragons at 4:30 p.m. Neither United nor Purchase Line posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

United fell victim to Portage and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 11-0.

Meanwhile, Purchase Line can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Marion Center, sneaking past 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Dragons have posted since March 27th.

Rylee Mahaffey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Purchase Line's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alorra Phillips, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

United's defeat dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Purchase Line, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

United couldn't quite get it done against Purchase Line when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 11-6. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
