Preview: Mashpee vs. Archbishop Williams

Given their disadvantage in the MaxPreps state rankings, Archbishop Williams should expect quite the challenge on Friday. They and Mashpee go head to head at 7:00 PM in their first playoff game of the year. The teams both seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins.

Mashpee might be getting used to good results now that the squad has seven wins in a row. They got past St. Mary's with less than a touchdown to spare, ending up at 30-24. No one put up better numbers for Mashpee than senior Devaun Ford, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns. If you haven't heard Ford's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past seven games.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Williams made easy work of Arlington Catholic last Friday and carried off a 29-6 win. That looming 23-point mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Archbishop Williams yet.

Mashpee didn't have too much trouble with Archbishop Williams the last time the two teams met as they won 22-6. Mashpee's victory shoved Archbishop Williams out of the playoffs, so expect the team to have a target on their back in this one.
