Baseball Game Preview: Grimsley Whirlies vs. Western Guilford Hornets

Grimsley has gone 9-1 against Western Guilford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Grimsley Whirlies will head out on the road to take on the Western Guilford Hornets at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Grimsley has six straight wins, Western Guilford has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Grimsley will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Northwest Guilford, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Grimsley walked away with a 6-2 victory over Northwest Guilford on Friday. The game was the first time the Whirlies have beaten the Vikings on their field since June 9, 2021.

Jacob Benbow tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Max Snyder was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Gabe Doolen also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Western Guilford fell victim to Southwest Guilford and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 13-0 to the Cowboys.

Western Guilford's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Grimsley, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Grimsley took their victory against Western Guilford in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 18-0. Will Grimsley repeat their success, or does Western Guilford have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
